back in seattle!

Hi all!

Well, I'm back in Seattle. Maddie and I had a fun long drive up with my friend Patrick. We made it safely and a few days later Maddie made it safely back to SB. Wish she could've stayed longer (encourage her to move up here!)

Anywhosits and whatsits, I'm spending the next month soaking up the last bits of summer before school starts on the 28th of September.

Goals for the rest of summer:
  • Regulate my sleep schedule :)
  • Enhance my musical skills with the banjo and guitar
  • Take advantage of the last days of Seattle sunshine!
Hope everyone's doing well, sorry for those of you I missed while I was there... you can always come visit me! :) Otherwise I will see you all come Christmastime!

some snippets from summer

Well haven't I been lazy! I have not updated this little guy since before the school year ended!

Summer has been a blessing so far. Mom and Becky came up to visit and we went on a grand road trip up to Canada and then all the way back down to good ol' California... stopping along the way to stay in treehouses, do a bit of spelunking in the Oregon Caves, and go on a safari!

Since returning to the Emerald City, I've moved into my new apartment for the year (it's just LOVELY), and I've been decorating and settling in with my roommate KelleyAnne.

I love Summer - It's been soooo nice to finally have time to do some crafty things, and read some fun books... instead of, you know, homework... :)

Anyway, I'll be sure and keep this blog more regularly updated throughout the summer to keep you all up to date with my life up here in Washington.

But for now, take care!

Locks and Surprises

It was great stopping by Santa Barbara last weekend and seeing those of you I did... Unfortunately the fire caused some chaos, but at least it kept things interesting(?)... Anyway, it was great fun surprising my parents - thanks all who helped make that run so smoothly!

I don't really have any exciting news to share, but I did change my hair a bit... My last night home Maddie so graciously dyed it for me, and the following night (back in Seattle), my friend Lexie cut my bangs! Let me know what you think!

More Photos on Flickr!

Here's the link for my updated flickr account and the photos I've submitted for my Image Capture class. http://www.flickr.com/photos/37080493@N08/

Colour Theory Composition(s)

For my Colour Theory class we were assigned to design a composition that will be used three times throughout the quarter. We then have to paint it in various palettes: monochromatic, dyadic, and triadic.

Monochromatic:

Dyadic:
I painted this one twice because my professor wanted me to try out the composition without the darker outlining... unfortunately I ended up not being totally satisfied with either of them, but I'm hoping that the Triadic palette will prove to be my best...

2D Design Projects

Here are two projects from my 2D Design class.

The first was to take a shape and work it through multiple forms of  manipulation (subtraction, union, interpenetration, intersection, duplication, etc.) We had to use each one
 twice inverting the negative/positive space...

The second project was to take a letter of a certain font and repeat it in a number of styles to create another composition. I chose the letter 'E' (obviously, since its the best letter)...

capturing images

I love taking photos. I've had my camera for a little over a year now, and am still figuring out all of its quirks... My Image Capture class has been helpful in that regard.

Artwork From Last Quarter

Last quarter I took a 3D Design course and a Concept & Composition Drawing course. For the final project in 3D I had to create an enlarged replica of any object... I chose a concertina accordion...
In Concept & Composition, we would work on a lot of basic drawing exercises (practicing contour line drawings, shading, etc.) and I ended up with a few decent drawings just from the exercises...

We also had to do a 3'x5' piece... the assignment started off as a self-portrait inspired by a playing face card (meaning the piece could be read upside-down or right-side-up). The whole "self-portrait" concept didn't really hold true throughout the project... but have fun with interpretation!

For our final project we were to make a tryptic piece (so made up of 3 parts) that represented metamorphosis or change...

Hey There!

I figured after a few months of living up in Seattle and not being all that great at emailing all of you back in California... it might be potentially easier for me to blog it up. (so to speak).
SO... what's been going on in Seattle you ask? Well... this week has treated us with extraordinary weather. Baseball season has begun... Franklin Gutierrez's first home run as a Mariner was the first home run I watched as a Mariner fan.

School is going well. I'm in the second week of Spring Quarter and will be applying for the Illustration major in the fall. Right now I'm taking four classes:
  • Astronomy - I've always been interested in this subject, so it's nice to finally take a class on it!
  • 2D Design - A requirement for my major, basically working with shapes and how they can be manipulated into other shapes.
  • Design Studio Color Theory - My favorite class so far... learning about color and the various color systems used in art, as well as how to use Gouache.
  • Image Capture - Basically a class on photography/photoshop.
I'll continue to keep all y'all updated... let me know if you want to hear about anything in particular!
